No system of justice is perfect. Wrongful convictions occur. There are many ways this can happen.
An eye witness may be mistaken or may lie.
A prosecutor may hide vital evidence from the defense so the jury never gets to see it.
A defense lawyer may be too inexperienced, underpaid or overworked to argue the case properly or make sure all the relevant evidence is put before the jury. He or she may not care enough about the person they are defending to research the case properly and follow all the leads....
